Welcome to Our New Blog!

Welcome!     We are Becky Civjan and Tony Nauroth, authors of A Conversation about … The Eternal Life of Stuff. We’re so happy to have you as a visitor to our blog about our new book. This project is very special to us, and we hope to share some of that excitement with you here!

This is our first Podcast:

(Do you think I was nervous.  There just may be thirty “uh-mmm’s” in the first sentence.  That may qualify for a World Record. Tony is much more relaxed.  He is always relaxed.  Nothing rattles Tony.

Our book is not just a book to read.  It is a conversation that we hope to continue with you, our readers. We will be using this blog to interact with you and expand on some of the topics in A Conversation about … The Eternal Life of Stuff and on some of the ideas that are inspired by our book. This is a great place for you to get to know us, and we’re looking forward to getting to know you, too.

  1. I enjoyed reading about the role of stuff in life’s experiences and have suggested that my family join the conversation. This is not only a good read, it leads to happy conversations.

    • Tony and I wrote the book in the form of a conversation because we found it was a fun and invigorating way to approach our topic. The conversation made it so easy to share our stories and we hope that our book will inspire others to talk about all the stuff they gather and why! What a great idea to have your whole family involved! All you have to do is start with a story…

  2. Interesting thing about our book … we didn’t know what it was about until AFTER it was finished. Sure, it’s about all the stuff we collect, but it’s more like a storybook of memory placeholders. Each thing we keep is a touchstone to a person, place, or thing. Even if a chunk of stuff is a cheap trinket or a pebble picked off the ground, the value is in that moment, not in the memento. Still, if anyone can tell us what else our book is about, let us know. We are fond of illumination.

    • I think I know what the book is about, Tony. I think it was written to make sure we don’t forget about our Stuff!.. There are lots of memories resting quietly in each item we have kept stashed away in the back of a closet. They wait patiently for us to retrieve them.

  3. So I haven’t read it yet. It am quite sure it will be good. Congratulations to the authors for the idea and for getting it published. It’s impressive.

  4. If you like live events, come on down to the Moravian Book Shop on Main Street in Bethlehem, PA this Saturday (July 20) from 1 to 3 p.m. for our book signing and launch party. It could be quite entertaining! Bring a friend. See you there!!!

  5. THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO JOINED US AT THE BOOK SIGNING AT MORAVIAN BOOK SHOP! IT WAS GREAT SEEING YOU..SUCH A PHOTOGENIC GROUP! THANK YOU TO MY DEAR RALPH! YOUR PHOTOS BRING SUCH JOY…AS WE RE-LIVE FUN TIMES WHEN LOOKING AT THEM! I LOVE YOU!

  6. I’m working on the book and please don’t take the word “work” as a metaphor. It is a literal reference. I read about six stories. Don’t want to eat our ice cream too fast ya know.

So what am I to do in this blog? Do you want comments on each story? Or the whole book? Let’s go author we need guidance.

    • Mel, I know that you are the last person on earth that needs guidance. You have it all figured out!
Just write anything you wish as long as it is nice. If any story in our book triggered a thought about something from your past…you might want to write it down. A good place to start is on this Blog…
Or..you can just connect with a normal ‘conversation’ which is also part of our book.
So Mel, what’s the weather like today?….

  7. So I just read happily dancing through the years. Might I say it was interesting. I’d like to share that like you I wrote a poem in sometime in grammar school. However it did not with first place. I was ROBBED!
We were assigned the Dewey decimal system for a poem.
    So I wrote.
The Dewey decimal system is really swell
Even your friends you might tell
About this system which is good
So they can use it as they should.
The nunn said my parents wrote it and gave first place to Michael Emirati. Their favorite. Life isn’t fair!

    • WOW! Was that Michael Emirati the famous Poet Laureate?…Just kidding…
You know, Mel, it’s best not to hold on to a grudge too long. The older we get, the more valuable every bit of brain space becomes. Don’t waste it by storing old “grudge” material. Open it up for other thoughts that might even make you happy!
That is just a little piece of Becky advice for the day. I’m sorry…I can’t help myself.

      • I’m dying with that grudge.

Tell Tony when he is in a store to keep his hands in his pockets! 8 freakin yo-yos. Why not just take the case?
